Digital documents are any type of document which are stored onto a computer. These documents may have been created using a computer or they may have been transferred onto a computer. Digital documents may also be known as electronic documents.
ICT and specifically digital documents can be integrated into the classroom in a number of ways. They can be used to create presentations and viewed when researching topics and issues. They can also be very useful in regards to assessment as students can develop their writings and presentations electronically, allowing them to get some variety from the standard written format and also allowing them to save, and share any piece of work they have created.
Below are some examples of different types of digital documents:
Hi Lew,
As you may be aware my presentatioin and website was on the use of Digital Documents in the classroom. I was unaware that programs such as Microsoft Word and Powerpoint were classified as Digital Documents. Now I know! Prior to my presentation I only considered using this area of ICT with upper primary students, however on completion of the task I can see how easily it can be adapted (with appropriate scaffolding) to lower primary. Coincidentally, I was teaching year one on a casual day and they were creating Powerpoint presentations for the very first time. I had to guide them step by step and demonstrate – however they all caught on very quickly and created a short powerpoint presentation on their families. They even started using background images and designs and others began using Custom Animation. It was amazing to see how quickly they picked it up – although they are living in a world full of technology and computers so I suppose it is second nature to them! I thought it was great to see the application of Digital Documents in a young year level – when the teacher could have taken the easy way out and asked them to draw a picture of their families instead! This method was far more engaging, enjoyable and they increased their skills of ICT, digital documents and Powerpoint a great deal!! Just thought that might be of interest to you
Digital documents come into great use when in the classroom, it allows students to present their assessments in digital format e.g microsdot word. Last term I had taught year 3 students how to save their work efficiently and then reopen, this skill will be greatly used well into the future.
